Rhyme Judgment
Before Starting the Rhyme Test, Complete the "Rhyme Judgment" Exercises
After completing the rhyme exposure exercises, guide your client through the "Rhyme Judgment" exercises. These activities will help strengthen their ability to identify rhyming words in an engaging, interactive way. This extra practice ensures the client is prepared for the more challenging tasks ahead in the lab exercises.
In the 'Rhyme Judgment' activity, the client will see two sections, each containing two words (e.g., 'cat' and 'rat' in the first section, and 'dog' and 'bat' in the second), along with sounds for each word. The client's task is to decide whether the words in each section rhyme. For example, they will determine if 'cat' and 'rat' rhyme, and then if 'dog' and 'bat' rhyme. After making a selection, the client will receive immediate feedback, such as 'Exactly, you got it!' for the correct answer and 'Try again!' for an incorrect answer. Once both questions are answered correctly, a message will appear saying, 'You answered both questions correctly!'
The use of visual and auditory stimuli (images and sounds) helps engage both the client's sight and hearing, making the activity more interactive and memorable. Immediate feedback ensures the client can learn as they go, adjusting their understanding in real-time.
Purpose of "Rhyme Judgment" as a Warm-Up:
- Building Phonological Awareness: This activity helps your client practice recognizing rhymes, an essential skill for reading, spelling, and understanding language.
- Engagement and Motivation: The activity offers a fun, low-pressure way to start thinking about sounds in words, building confidence before tackling more difficult tasks.
- Reducing Cognitive Load: The simple, structured task focuses on basic skills, helping your client prepare for more complex tasks later.
- Immediate Feedback: Instant feedback lets your client know if they are on the right track, helping them adjust and get ready for advanced exercises.
- Preparing for Later Tasks: By mastering rhyme recognition, your client will be better equipped for tasks that involve creating rhymes or sorting words by sound.

Rhyme Mastery
This page is a work in progress, with new materials being added weekly to enhance your learning experience. Check back regularly as the section continues to grow!
TEST - Rhyming Word Exposure
TEST - To test, click on the picture.
In this section, you can explore various resources designed to strengthen rhyming skills, which are essential for early literacy development. Begin with the 'Rhyming Words Flashcards & Sound' to introduce and reinforce rhyme patterns through interactive cards. Then, move on to 'Rhyme Practice for Series' to enhance your learning and practice at your own pace. Once you're familiar with the sounds and patterns, visit the testing section to assess your progress.
Rhyming isn’t just important for children’s literacy; it also plays a crucial role in speech and language therapy for individuals with phonological disorders and aphasia. For those with phonological problems, practicing rhyming helps improve phonemic awareness, aiding in the correct production and differentiation of sounds. In aphasia therapy, rhyming exercises can assist in word retrieval, speech fluency, and language reorganization by engaging the brain’s natural pattern-recognition abilities. Rhyming thus serves as a valuable tool across various age groups and conditions to support effective communication.

Rhyme Quiz & Practice
This section of the website is designed to support individuals in developing phonological awareness through interactive and engaging rhyming exercises. Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate the sounds of spoken language, an essential skill for learning to read and write. Rhyming, one of the earliest and most accessible areas of phonological awareness, helps individuals identify sound patterns, particularly at the ends of words. For children, it builds a foundation for understanding how words are made up of sounds, while for adults, including those recovering from speech challenges, it aids in regaining awareness of sound patterns and speech production.
I have created a series of 20 interactive exercises in this first section, incorporating both pictures and sounds. In each exercise, the user will see an image representing a word, such as 'hoot.' When clicked, the word 'hoot' is pronounced aloud. Below the image, three additional pictures are displayed—like 'coot,' 'boot,' and 'meat'—each with a sound button to hear the word clearly. The task is to select the two pictures that rhyme with the presented word. This combination of pictures and sounds makes the exercises accessible and enjoyable for children, parents, and individuals working on speech recovery, improving memory, listening, and sound discrimination skills.
The second and third sections will follow after this one is published, further expanding the exercises to continue building phonological awareness.
First Section part 1
Welcome to the first section of our interactive rhyming exercises. In this section, you will practice rhyming using both pictures and sounds to build your phonological awareness.
Objective:
Your task is to select two images that rhyme with the given word.
How to Play:
- Look at the Word: At the top of the screen, you will see a word (e.g., "dispute").
- Listen to the Word: Click on the image next to the word to hear how it sounds. This will help you understand the word’s pronunciation.
- Examine the Images: Below the word, you'll see several images. Each image represents an object or concept.
- Identify Rhymes:
- Rhyming words sound similar in their last part.
- For example, if the word is "dispute," you should look for words that share a similar ending sound, such as "flute" and "root."
- Don't worry about spelling! Focus on how the word sounds at the end.
- Select the Rhyming Images: Click on the images that rhyme with the given word.
- Check Your Selection: Once you’ve selected two images, click the Check button to see if you’ve chosen the correct rhymes.
Click on each pair to start the rhyming exercise:

Enhances recognition of rhyming words and word families
Game Play Overview
- Objective: The main goal of the game is for the player to drag and drop pictures of words into the correct baskets based on their rhyming sounds.
- Setup: There are two main baskets labeled with different rhyming sounds: /æk/ (as in "back") and /æb/ (as in "crab"). The player is presented with a list of words (e.g., "back," "clack," "crab," "flab," "lab," "grab" "lilac,"....) displayed as sound buttons. Each button, when clicked, plays the sound of the word and displays its corresponding picture.
- Playing the Game:
- The player presses a sound button. When clicked, a picture of that word appears in the middle of the screen and the word's sound is played.
- The player then drags the picture of the word and drops it into the appropriate basket. The baskets accept words with the corresponding rhyming sounds: words that rhyme with /æk/ go into the "æk" basket, and words that rhyme with /æb/ go into the "æk" basket.
- If the word is placed in the wrong basket, an error message is shown, and the player is encouraged to try again.
- As words are correctly placed, the basket fills up, and the player receives feedback when they complete the game, such as a message like "Fantastic job! Keep shining!"
- Refresh Button: The game has a "Refresh" button that resets the game, allowing the player to try again.

Daily Updates Coming! We've labeled all the pictures and will start uploading them daily. Once all the pictures are uploaded, we'll begin developing hundreds of online apps and materials to help you. Stay tuned as we update this page with new content every day!"
!!!!!!
Some PDF files and links on this site may currently be unavailable as we are in the process of uploading new materials. Please check back later for access to all resources. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this update.
Please note that we are reorganizing the Rhyming Words section. Check back tomorrow for the updated menu
This section focuses on teaching and learning words through common rimes (patterns of letters that end words). I have created 15 series of materials using patterns from Edward J. Dwyer's work, along with additional patterns from my own research. The first half of these series features easier rimes, while the latter half presents more complex ones. A complete list of these patterns is provided after the series.
Flashcards for these series are already uploaded, and I will be adding online apps for free practice soon. The resources in this section are valuable for educators, students learning English as a second language, speech therapists, CDAs, SLPAs, and parents. If you need specific flashcards, you can find them in other sections, such as articulation sounds for therapy, phonological intervention, or aphasia.
Please look for the flashcards (series 01-15) and programs under the 'Rhyming Words' section in the menus.
